EFT -AN EFFECTIVE INTERVENTION FOR CSA

Emotion Freedom Technique (EFT), founded by Gary Craig, is a very effective therapeutic technique for handling trauma. EFT is commonly known as the “tapping technique.” It involves tapping specific meridian points along with specific related affirmations, otherwise known as “set up statements.” The concept behind this intervention is that the meridians in the energy field are blocked due to various emotional distress. Tapping with appropriate statements/affirmations helps clear the blocks and restore harmony in the energy field, thus promoting wellness in the individual.
Many of my clients who watch online videos on EFT report the method as “not very effective.” The purpose of these online videos is to create awareness about this beautiful intervention, which is indeed a Godsend. Heartfelt gratitude to Gary Craig for this. EFT is extremely effective when used by a trained therapist.
A simple explanation of how I use this technique to heal trauma: Following the case history session, I identify difficult emotions and experiences. I inquire with the client about their main area of distress. Based on their reply, I prioritize and form the set-up statement with the client's acceptance. I lead the client through the session, assisting them in releasing blocked emotions. We tap together, altering the set-up statements as the client progresses. The client may experience physical symptoms during the session, which are given importance. Even though I may have identified the root cause of the present distress, I may not directly approach it unless the client acknowledges it. So, the tapping with set-up statements commences; I guide the client through, allowing them to clear emotional blocks while also encouraging them to talk about it if needed. An EFT session typically lasts for three hours, during which the client often clears trauma and learns healthier coping strategies. The client also becomes empowered to use the tapping technique for various other issues.
While EFT is effective for various emotional distress, I highlight its impact for individuals struggling after childhood abuse because there are many misconceptions around this experience and its healing process. EFT focuses on clearing emotional wounds through tapping and guiding the client to focus on their thoughts and emotions, helping them to move on from the trauma without reliving it.
I share a case study where EFT worked beautifully: AZ, a young professional, had been experiencing a gradual decline in emotional control, increased sensitivity to stimuli, and other concerning symptoms. She had experienced abuse from her grandfather, leading to trauma and low self-worth. Through multiple EFT sessions, she overcame shame, anger, disgust, and low self-worth, emerging as a healthy, happy individual actively seeking job opportunities.
EFT is simple, easy to practice, and applicable, yet rich in results. I strongly recommend at least one EFT session for anyone interested in self-enhancement.
